A great poet, even without James Franco’s endorsement
The night after Frank Bidart won the 2013 National Book Critics Circle award for poetry, James Franco mentioned him on “The Tonight Show.” This is not typical for poetry awards. Or “The Tonight Show.”Bidart, a professor at Wellesley College, has been publishing poems to great acclaim for more than four decades, but recently his popularity seems to have soared. Last year, 800 people attended his sold-out appearance (with Franco) at the Poetry Foundation in Chicago.
